Keys to a Safe, Effective Anesthesia Experience

Before Anesthesia

Plainview & Massapequa Oral and Implant Surgery makes every effort to safeguard the health of our patients during any procedure. For this reason, we have outlined the following guidelines that should be adhered to before general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Following these guidelines will guarantee an improved experience and complete safety on the day of your procedure.

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for eight hours prior to the appointment. The only exception is medication.
  • Do not smoke for at least 12 hours prior to surgery. The ideal situation is to cut down on smoking or cease smoking as soon as possible on the day of surgery.
  • There must be a responsible adult to bring the patient into the office and stay throughout the procedure to drive the patient home.
  • Under no circumstances should the patient drive or operate machinery for 24 hours following the administration of anesthesia.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled past the elbow. Also wear low-heeled shoes.
  • Don’t wear excessive makeup, lipstick, or nail polish on surgery day.
  • If you have an upset stomach, cough, sore throat, or cold, kindly notify the office.
  • If you take routine oral medications or antibiotics before surgery, take them as normal with a little bit of water. If you have concerns about medication, check with your physician before surgery.

Follow All These Instructions Carefully!

We want you to have the best possible experience.
